Brooklyn College Protests Really Cute

The Ink’s Jack Mirkinson says students have walked out of classes, backed by professors.
There’s a sit in, lofty discussions about institutional racism, workshops, movie screenings and food.
In short, far more civilized than the chaos at the MTA hearing at the Brooklyn Museum last night, where there was lots of yelling. And 4 arrests.
The Ink already knows the kids are really mad about the MTA revoking student MetroCards.

UPDATE: A ‘Restore Student MetroCards’ petition is being tweeted far and wide.
The last MTA hearing is at 6pm at FIT at 7th and 27th in Manhattan.
A rally is planned for 4pm at Governor Paterson’s office at 633 Third Avenue and 41st Street in Manhattan.

what’s this about the protests being cute? there’s nothing cute about it. we’re organizing and trying to put pressure on the state. and more “civilized” than the mta hearing? young people are angry and mobilizing. the mta hearing was a farce – they only let politicians speak; meanwhile, everyone present was calling out to hear students speak. when someone from the community finally did take to the mic, cops threw her against the wall and started grabbing other people in the audience. why don’t you show up to these events and write a real article, like mr. mirkinson, and keep your judgements about cuteness out of it?

The ‘cute’ judgement was based on a report from Mr Mirkinson, and the word “civilized” refers to the conduct of all parties at the MTA hearing.
If you’d like to email us your details at thebrooklynink@gmail.com, we’d be happy to turn up to more events.

The NY state gov’t waste so much money! No wonder the schools are being effected. But get a life! Use your head! There is no racism involved, it’s our corrupt politicians. Vote them out…….
