A suspicious 2-alarm fire broke out at the Coney Island Arcade last night.
The operator of the arcade is currently in China attending an amusement expo, and many Coney Island neighbors were concerned for the two famous cats, Target and Targette, of the arcade.

Unfortunatly, one of the cats did not make it. Read more at The Gothamist.

Targette, you will be missed every day.

The owner of the arcade WAS NOT in China. This was a strong arm tactic by Joe Siit, Thor equities and the City of NY to get the land. Manny was approached by Sitt 3 years ago. Manny was forced to sign the gag order. Manny put up a sign in front of his arcade which was shaped like a tombstone, had Sitt’s picture on it and had the gag order stapled to it. Manny refused to budge. Then, with less that 2 weeks to go to Memorial Day, some one hired day laborers to fix the roof? Using an acetayln torch? At night?
And then, last night; Wonder Wheel park was broken into? Rides busted up? Arcade machines destroyed? Ever heard of the term “blight the area”? This is harrasment, pure and simple. NYC, Sitt; Thor Equities and Taconic have big plans for this area: CONDOS. There’s a “no fault” escape clause in the contract for the NEW Luna Park. If the area DOES get declared unsafe, Luna Park and Zamperla can put all those new rides back onto flat bed trucks; delcare bankruptcy and leave Coney Island, the workers and the residents holding the fuzzy end of the cotton candy wrapper.
