Red Hook Meublistas Sell Bits of Coney Island for Thousands
Mon, May 10, 2010
Furniture designers based in Red Hook are going to make a killing: they’re selling outrageously expensive wooden tables and chairs made from repurposed pieces of the Coney Island boardwalk. Jason Horvath and Bill Hilgendorf started Uhuru—Swahili for “freedom” and Nichelle Nichols’s character on the original Star Trek—seven years ago, and now their Coney Island pieces are selling from anywhere to $4,500 to $7,200. All of this from buying 200 feet of discarded planks from a contractor, for a whopping $800. Quite a lofty goal, boys!

Seriously doubt its the real wood from Coney – they were torn down as well as cut down in size then separated and taken to several different locations in NJ & Long Island to be thrown out – - its just a name they are using to boost sales.
This furniture is made form Ipe Wood – the boardwalk is not & never was made form Ipe wood or from Brazil. This co advertises the boardwalk is destroyed – it is not – it is still very much alive – I walk on it daily.
