Former Brooklyn Student Sentenced for Helping Al Qaeda

Saed Hashmi, 30, a former Brooklyn student who pleaded guilty in April to a charge of conspiring to provide material support to Al Qaeda in Afghanistan will now serve 15 years in prison. He was sentenced Wednesday. Hashmi was born in Pakistan and grew up in New York. Hashmi was arrested in 2006 at Heathrow Airport in London for giving money to the Al Qaeda to be used for supplies.
