In case you managed to escape the heat yesterday, here’s the steamy damage: The temperature in the city hit 103 degrees, a new record. About 6,300 people lost power in the five boroughs, according to Con Edison. About 51,500 utility customers in Vinegar Hill, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill and Cobble Hill experienced an electrical slowdown as Con Edison was forced to reduce voltage. Some subway trains speeds were slowed because tracks got too hot, the New York Times is reporting. The heat wave is expected to persist today, but not quite to the oppressive degree yesterday; expect highs in the low to mid 90′s.
