They may use Yiddish as their primary language between friends, but you don't need sign language to help the Yiddish speakers. By the way, Yiddish is a great language, and not too hard for English speakers to learn !! I did. "to work as enumerators at their temples": Orthodox synagogues (i.e. those in Boro Park) are not correctly referred to as "temples". In fact many Orthodox Jews find that term offensive when referring to a synagogue. There is only one Temple, which will be rebuilt on the so called "Temple Mount" (for which the Hebrew term is Har ha-Bayis - "the mountain of (G-d's) House") in Jerusalem. Interestingly Ms. Da Costa Graeff correctly uses the Yiddish term "shul"... good for her!
