The Auburn Family Shelter at Fort Greene has become a legend of sorts. Neighborhood organizations, advocacy groups for the homeless and seven interviewed residents say that it is infamous as one of the worst shelters for homeless families in the city.

Anti-Graffiti Campaign Launches in Bay Ridge

Graffiti vandals have been striking at locations all over the Bay Ridge neighborhood, with lampposts, mailboxes, storefronts, etc. bearing the brunt of the onslaught, and the community frowns upon the attacks. In response, State Senator Marty Golden (R-Bay Ridge) has launched a new campaign using social media to clean up graffiti in Bay Ridge.

It seems Bay Ridge’s Community Board 10 is getting tough on new liquor license requests. The board doesn’t have the power to grant a license—that’s the job of the New York State Liquor Authority. The community leaders and residents, however, are weighing in heavily to recommend or oppose who gets to sell liquor in the neighborhood. And their efforts are working.
