			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>An early morning fire in a Crown Heights apartment building left one dead and two injured, the <em>Daily News</em> reported. The deceased, who has not been identified yet, was in his fifties and drank heavily, according to neighbors. A 59 year-old man, who was taken to Kings County Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalationn , was intoxicated at the time of the fire, police said. According to FDNY Deputy Chief Stephen Moro, a firefighter was also seriously injured in the blaze. Moro called the fire &#8220;suspicious,&#8221; but wouldn&#8217;t elaborate more on its cause.</p>

<p>A massive fire claimed the life of an elderly Brooklyn woman early Sunday, the New York Daily News reports.</p>
<p>The woman, whose name has not been released, died at Woodhull Hospital after firefighters pulled her from the burning Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment building, Fire Department officials said.</p>
<p>Firefighters raced to the Greene Avenue scene after getting a 911 call at about 6 a.m.<span> </span></p>
<p><span>A firefighter </span>was able to rescue the victim&#8217;s beloved black-and-white cat, whom neighbors said was named Britney.</p>

The other four siblings have been upgraded to stable condition, the Wall Street Journal reports.</p>

He pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital. Three brothers and two sisters, ranging in age from 1 to 10, are being treated at Staten Island University Hospital. The youngest is listed in critical condition, NY1 reports. While no cause is known at this time, a neighbor told NY1 that the family lit candles in celebration of the Jewish holidays, which could have sparked the fire.</p>

The fire was knocked down around 11 p.m. by the more than 130 firefighters who responded, but Avigdor Krasney was trapped on the top floor of a three-story residential building and perished. Six other children, ages ranging from 1 to 10 years, were critically wounded. <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/30/nyregion/30fire.html?partner=rss&amp;emc=rss" target="_blank">The New York Times is reporting</a> that about 20 people had just sat down to celebrate the end of the Jewish holiday Sukkot when the fire started.</p>

He was 35-year-old Eddie Ortiz. The two other victims have been identified as Paco Ortiz, 81, and Nydia Ortiz, 40. They are in stable condition at Interfaith Hospital. The <em>News</em> says that a 14-year-old boy told police he saw a man running from the scene of the fire moments before the building on Decatur St. went up in flames.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, a two-alarm fire broke out at 4:30 this morning at Concord St. in Boerum Hill, leaving two firefighters hurt. The residents escaped unharmed, but their home was gutted by the blaze.</p>
