Suspicious Fire in Crown Heights Kills One, Injures Two

An early morning fire in a Crown Heights apartment building left one dead and two injured, the Daily News reported. The deceased, who has not been identified yet, was in his fifties and drank heavily, according to neighbors. A 59 year-old man, who was taken to Kings County Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalationn , was intoxicated at the time of the fire, police said. According to FDNY Deputy Chief Stephen Moro, a firefighter was also seriously injured in the blaze. Moro called the fire “suspicious,” but wouldn’t elaborate more on its cause.

Bed-Stuy woman dies in two-alarm blaze

A massive fire claimed the life of an elderly Brooklyn woman early Sunday, the New York Daily News reports.

The woman, whose name has not been released, died at Woodhull Hospital after firefighters pulled her from the burning Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment building, Fire Department officials said.

Firefighters raced to the Greene Avenue scene after getting a 911 call at about 6 a.m.

A firefighter was able to rescue the victim’s beloved black-and-white cat, whom neighbors said was named Britney.

Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of a fire in Midwood that killed an 8 year-old boy and injured five of his siblings late Wednesday evening, the Wall Street Journal is reporting. While no cause has yet been discovered, the fire does not appear to be suspicious. Avigdor Krasny, 8, died when he became trapped on the third floor of the home. One sibling, his 1 year-old sister, is still listed in critical condition at Staten Island University Hospital North. The other four siblings have been upgraded to stable condition, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The story regarding a fatal fire in Midwood last night is developing. NY1 reports that a Brooklyn rabbi managed to save five of his children, but couldn’t get to his 8 year-old son Avigdor Krasny, who was trapped on the third floor of the building. He pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital. Three brothers and two sisters, ranging in age from 1 to 10, are being treated at Staten Island University Hospital. The youngest is listed in critical condition, NY1 reports. While no cause is known at this time, a neighbor told NY1 that the family lit candles in celebration of the Jewish holidays, which could have sparked the fire.

An 8 year-old boy was killed in a fire that broke out at around 9:30 p.m. tonight at 1118 Avenue P in Midwood, Brooklyn. The fire was knocked down around 11 p.m. by the more than 130 firefighters who responded, but Avigdor Krasney was trapped on the top floor of a three-story residential building and perished. Six other children, ages ranging from 1 to 10 years, were critically wounded. The New York Times is reporting that about 20 people had just sat down to celebrate the end of the Jewish holiday Sukkot when the fire started.

Funeral Held in Brownsville for Staten Island Murder-Suicide Victims

A funeral home owner in Brownsville, Brooklyn donated services for the five members of the Jones family who died in a fiery murder-suicide on Staten Island in late July. Police originally thought C.J., a 14 year-old victim committed the crime, but later ruled that the responsibility was with the mother, Leisa Jones, 30, NY1 reports.

Brooklyn Church Fire Likely Destroyed Rare Organ

A 92 year-old organ is likely a complete loss after a fire Wednesday night at the Boerum Hill Baptist Temple. The instrument wasn’t in regular use, but had been featured on a number of recent albums. “It’s a devastating loss,” Daniel McCalla told the Daily News. “[The church] was friendly to organists. You don’t get that a lot in the city,” the Prospect Lefferts Gardens music teacher said.

Ocean Hill Fire Victims Identified; Another Blaze Breaks Out In Boerum Hill

The man killed in the Ocean Hill fire last night has been formally identified, the Daily News reports. He was 35-year-old Eddie Ortiz. The two other victims have been identified as Paco Ortiz, 81, and Nydia Ortiz, 40. They are in stable condition at Interfaith Hospital. The News says that a 14-year-old boy told police he saw a man running from the scene of the fire moments before the building on Decatur St. went up in flames.

Meanwhile, a two-alarm fire broke out at 4:30 this morning at Concord St. in Boerum Hill, leaving two firefighters hurt. The residents escaped unharmed, but their home was gutted by the blaze.

Fatality In Ocean Hill Blaze; Investigation Underway

It has now been confirmed that a man hurt in the Ocean Hill fire last night has died. He was 35. A 40-year-old woman and an 81-year-old man were critically injured in the blaze, which occurred at 732 Decatur St. ABC Eyewitness News is reporting that a 14-year-old boy is under questioning by investigators, who say the fire seems suspicious.
